Listening to podcasts on iTunes, Soundcloud, Spotify & some more famous apps has been increasing over the last couple of years.
Statistics show that over 50% of homes in the US are podcast fans. And 24% of people in the US listen to podcasts weekly. Add to it the rest of the people in the world. That’ll really be a massive number.
Podcasts related to screenwriting & filmmaking are also on the rise. The reason why people are opting for these podcasts is:
- You get to learn new tips each day
- They can be a replacement for screenwriting books, if you don’t have much time to read
- Imagination increases, which helps you think about your story or a scene. You can easily jot down a note while you are on the bus (plus don’t have to worry about your book flying out the window if the drive halts suddenly)

1. On the Page with Pilar Alessandra
Pilar Alessandra is a very famous podcaster, story analyst & teacher. She’s worked for Dreamworks, Radar Pictures, trained writers at ABC, Disney, MTV. She’s also taught at UCLA and LA Film School.
Her guests on the show include successful writers, producers & directors. She covers everything related to screenwriting. You’ll be missing many wonderful tips on selling screenplays, too, if you are not listening to this one.

2. Scriptnotes by John August
Screenwriters John August started this podcast along with Craig Mazin in 2011.
John goes in-depth and explains the art of writing screenplays with tips on pitching and even finding an agent. He shares his experience in the industry very frankly. Another podcast you should definitely be following.
3. Write On by Final Draft
This podcast is by the people behind the screenwriting software Final Draft. There can be no better connections in the screenwriting industry than Final Draft.
This podcast includes interviews with writers, agents, managers, filmmakers who answer everyday questions like “How did they get a break in the industry?”, “What is their every day like?”. It is entertaining and educational at the same time. Have fun listening to this one.
4. Indie Film Hustle
It was started by independent filmmaker Alex Ferrari, who has worked on more than 1000 feature films, shorts, commercials, music videos, network promos, documentaries & webisodes.
His podcast includes interviews with independent filmmakers who share their struggles, failures, success tips, marketing tactics along screenwriting of course. Alex has made over $90,000 selling his short film Broken.

Indiewire is an online publication about news related to the movie industry. It was started in 1996 and is regarded as one of the most trusted sources in this business. And that is why it’s podcast is also equally entertaining.

This podcast also known as Lessons From The Screenplay was started by Michael Tucker and his team. This is a relatively unknown podcast but dives deeper into the making of film and the guests are from different fields in Hollywood.

Brian Koppelman is the writer of Ocean’s Thirteen & producer of Edward Norton starred The Illusionist. The guests on his podcast are not only writers but also include famous authors. He asks questions on life in Hollywood, philosophy many topics apart from filmmaking also.
12. The Cinematography Podcast
Hosted by Ben Rock & Illya Friedman, this podcast is about the craft of cinematography but not limited to it. From Academy Award nominated filmmakers to story boarders, this program dives inside the kind of cinematography and photography required in films.
This is very interesting to learn even for people with just some curiosity about the filmmaking world.
13. Draft Zero
Draft Zero is a website dedicated to teaching screenwriting online. Two emerging Screenwriters Chas Fisher & Stuart Willis, created this site along with a podcast. They analyse what goes inside the writing process and what it takes to be a successful screenwriter in Hollywood.

In this podcast former TV writers Liz Craft and Sarah Fain talk about their career and experience in the industry.

This is a podcast focused on directing. Started by Matt Enlow & Oren Kaplan it features how directors and producers decide on the casting of actors.
